Gathering Open Data
The Open Data team is on a mission to find interesting open data sources. The data will be used in the data visualization workshops during the two following days. We are looking for suggestions for interesting data sources.
Time: Thursday 15:00 – 21:00
No registration needed, max. 10 participants
Processing Open Data
Open data does not have much value unless it’s in a format that is easy to manipulate. Our basic tutorial will give you some valuable tips on how to get started with working on open data. The advanced workshop will focus on converting some complex data material to a useful format, to be used in the visualization workshop the following day. Please bring a laptop, the tools and data will be provided.
Time: Friday 3 June 15:00 – 17:00 / 15:00 – 20:00
Registration: workshop@dmy-berlin.com before 30.5.
Visualising Open Data

Please bring a laptop and your own visualisation tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, Gimp, Paint, paper&crayons. We will also experiment with various scripting languages (such as Javascript) to create interactive visualisations. Data will be provided. More information at www.weloveopendata.com.

Open Helsinki: Form follows data? – Physical parametric information visualisation / Miska Knapek (FI)
Lecture – Miska Knapek lectures on his examinations of physical object forms made of open data. Objects form gain new meaning, and information visualisation/representation gains new metaphors, as data and physical form combine and objects become representations of information. The lecture examines the new ground.

No registration needed
Open Helsinki: YKON Game Intro & YKON Game
YKON artist collective has created a world simulation game for up to 30 -50 players. Day 1 and 2. The full version of the YKON game will be played on the third day of DMY Festival, in a hitherto unknown location. Instead of solving existing problems, the game seeks to uncover ideas that we’re still missing – sometimes wonderful, sometimes terrifying thoughts that could forever alter the world.

Open P2P Design
Open P2P Design brings open source and peer-to-peer dynamics inside a community-centered design process, in order to have real co-design projects with people and their communities. We can use Open P2P Design for co-designing Open Design processes or commercial or public services with open and peer-to-peer dynamics, starting from communities and involving them inside the design process. We can also use it for analyzing an existing business and opening to collaboration some of its activities, or design new ones in order to start a collaboration with a community of users.
